I haven't been posting much lately because there hasn't been too much to say. That being said, there has been a lot of stuff that has happened since I last posted.
First, I'm going to England this Saturday until the 24th. Actually, England for 3 day and Ireland for the rest.
Second, I've done a lot of work on the website template and I like how it's turning out. I still have work to do, including the archives templates and a lot more.
Third, I am moving back to Eau Claire at the end of the month, and I never thought I'd say this, but I think it will be a good thing.
Fourth, I'm up way past my bed time, and I need a lot of sleep for the flight on Saturday, so this is all I'll update now, but I'll try to blog from the UK/Ireland.
Huzzah! I have a new car. If you want to see what it looks like, there is a picture in yesterday's post and I put one up that I take myself. It is a 1993 Honda Accord, 5 speed and I love it. It is teal, not the best color, but I still think it looks pretty good. I still have to name her, and since she is green, this could be tough. I got my insurance again through Geico, as much as I hate their ads, they really do save you a lot of money.
Oh, I forgot to write yesterday that I won the 24 Season 2 DVD Boxed set from AM 1500. Yeah, I didn't even watch the show this semester, and I'm betting that I was the only one who entered the contest, but I won it. After I picked it up I went over to Best Buy to return it and got a $60 credit! Talk about overpirced. So I got a wireless adapter for my computer up here in the attic.

I think when I grow up I want to work with really smart people. I don't care if it pays well, as long as it is enough for me to live alone in a nice apartment and buy all the cool junk I want, I'll be happy.
I'm also trying to go to bed at a decent hour. Every night since I've come back I've slept from 3 AM to noon or so, and I need to cut that out. I don't do anything productive at night except watch the West Wing and aimlessly browse the internet. My bedtime is at 12:30 tonight. Good thing my watch seems to be a good 15 minutes slow. I'll have to look into that.
I also looked at a nice car today, too bad that I may not get it. We have to take it in to have our mechanic check it out, but he is busy Wed, so we'd have to see if he doesn't sell it by Thursday to pay $75 to see if it is worth buying.
These are the things that need to be done this summer:
- Get A Job
- Paint My Room
- Get A Car
- Meet and Marry Catherine Keener (after her divorce, of course)
- Buy A Watch That Can Keep Time
- Clean Out The Attic

I'm gonna read a book. From beginning to end. In that order. |
I have no car, not since Brandy died on me (and I treated her so well), so I've been using my parent's car. There was one guy selling a '92 Accord with 116k miles for $1,900 which would have been a great price if it didn't need quite a few things fixed. We paid $75 to have a guy look at it and tell us it wasn't worth buying, just like the $45 I paid to find out Brandy wasn't worth fixing. I think greasemonkies should only be able to charge when there is good news...
I bought Little Children from Costco this week on a whim, I love Tom Perrotta (he wrote Election) and I really like this book so far, but now I don't want to ever grow up, get married and certainly not have children.
I got West Wing season two on DVD, just finished up the last episode an hour ago. I honestly think season two was the best of all of them. Toby and Josh were both likeable, Rizzo wasn't a character they were obligated to put in every episode even though she is always comes off as a snob. And of course, Ainsley Hayes, can't forget her...
I watched the '24' finale, what a waste of time, nobody died, no big twist. Didn't one of Kim's other boyfriend's lose a limb, like last season? I don't care about the show, this was the only episode I saw this season after closely watching the last one. I've also missed out on the Alias episodes this season too.
I've found a blogger that I actually like read, he used to write for Dennis Miller Live and now lives in London with his wife. His blog is called Yankee Fog. Most other blogs are boring, including my own. I used to like Lileks, but he's a tool for Shrub and I find it hard to idolize him now.
I also have this problem of staying up until 3 or 4 AM every night and sleeping until noon, and tonight is no exception.
I'd also like to note that this is my 100th post, at least with Movable Type's count. So there, 100 entries! I'll be giving my speech after the dinner...
So here comes the end of the semester, I have finals this week, my dad comes tomorrow with a truck to move all my crap back to Minneapolis, and I am sick and have no energy to do all of this.
I just spent two hours writing an e-mail, I hope it doesn't get lost and I hope they write back...
I think that I spend far too much time on the internet when there are many more things in the world to do, so maybe I'll just go and do them.
My whole blog is pointless, I don't offer any real insight, just crap, and people visit to be polite, it isn't like they learn anything about me here anyway.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood...
I had to move some of my stuff back today, with only finals left, and my lease ending on Saturday, I have to get all of my stuff back to Minneapolis, meaning a lot of trips.
I am going to see Super Size Me today with G. Edwin, it looks really interesting and this is the first showing in the Twin Cities, at the Uptown.
I am quite sick, I have a horrible cold, I thought it was allergies but it is just a bad cold.
Well, the whole Cuba experience was wonderful, I've learned so much, and I want to share it with everybody, but I don't know the best way to do it. I want to come out and make two things clear: first, I think Castro is a bad guy and is the main reason why the system there is failing and second that the embargo (or blockade as it really is) that the US has against Cuba hurts the Cuban people and our own interests more than it hurts Castro. I would also like to say that I'm not really a fan of Che either, he advocated violence and supported Soviet Communism. I'm sure that most college students who wear Che shirts and think he was a great leader don't know what he really stood for, they wear it to look 'cool'. I was able to bring back some cigars and some rum (my 21st birthday is in 4 days, the 29th, not that I'm really counting) with no problem from either the Cubans or the Americans, which makes me happy because it made Shrub's stupid policy irrelevent. [Read His Full Speech Here]
Ending the embargo will open a new, close and needy market for the crops grown by farmers in America's heartland. Opening travel will allow average Cubans to interact with Americans visiting, to learn about our system, and before you know it will demand change from their own government. Cubans only have access to dollars from tourists, and Castro can keep them oppressed because of the embargo, but once it is lifted, he'll have no excuse. The Cuban lobby in Florida is the reason why this outdated policy is still in effect against a small, peaceful nation. There are problems in Cuba, Castro should not be in power, but keeping this embargo does not solve the problem.
I still have to finish writing my journal for the trip (it is part of the grade) as well as come up with a 15 minute presentation about the embargo and its effects on the Cuban people. Spring semester starts tomorrow, I still have to rent my books as well as buy supplies. Hopefully my classes won't be too hard, I would like a break but I'm doubting it will be the case. I have 18 credits this semester, but going hardcore this year means I get to graduate a semester early. It will work out well, if I can commit myself to study and do the work needed to do well. I will actually try to work on my blog more...
