Oscar Madness

|

So we're about 2/3s done with the incredibly boring 77th Academy Awards. The only Oscar I think was correctly given was for Sideways with best adapted screenplay. The Oscars are a big circle-jerk anyway. Roger Ebert talks about the unwritten rules of the Oscars in this article.

I returned my 40 gig boring regular iPod for the new exciting 40 gig photo iPod. I saved about $30. The only think I wish was that it allowed photos with the contacts. Oh well.

Back to the lame show.

Done and done

|

Well, I finished my statement of purpose, it only took me about 2 months of putting it off and about 2 hours of actually writing. Hopefully it will be a tie-breaker for the admissions people, but who knows? I don't know what I'll do if I do not get into GW, the HHH information session really turned me off to the school. That and the fact that I cannot do their MS program in the Science and Technology policy because I did not major nor did I take advanced classes in the hard sciences as an undergraduate. I really want my dad to do the MPA program there, I think he'd really like it, and he is completely qualified.

If you've ever wanted to see me driving when I look like an idiot, check this out. Photo copyright 2005, Jessica Albert.

One down, two to go

|

I got back my first letter of recommendation from the PoliSci chair. Once I get my other two back, I'll be able to send in my application. I'm currently working on my statement of purpose, which is supposed to be between 250-300 words, which is far too few. I want to finish the rest of it tonight so I can review it tomorrow with a professor tomorrow.

Started watching the first season of Monk that I got from NetFlix. I can't believe I've never seen this show before! I guess that I never watch USA so there is really no reason why I would have.

I think I want to get a typewriter.

Another mystery solved!

|

For the past few months, I've had an increasing amount of traffic to my website. I had no idea how I could rack up over a gigabyte of traffic in one 24 hour period, but then I looked into it. Turns out Yahoo! linked to a few video files from SNL that I had hosted on my blog. So a 5 meg file times several hundred downloads adds up.

Bastards.

Happy Birthday G. Edwin

|

Yes, today is G. Edwin's 22nd birthday. We will hopefully be celebrating tonight.

I am almost done reading Eats, Shoots and Leaves. Not quite as funny as I heard it was, but it is insightful.

This is actually my second post from my Mac mini. I love this computer, and I think I'm getting over all the things that I hate about how the Apple OS works.

I really enjoy taking math classes, logic classes and economics classes. There's just something that is really neat about problem solving using rules and logic.

So, in celebration of G. Edwin's birthday, I bring you his hero.

Many apologies

|

Many new changes, mostly that I got rid of comments for now due to spam and the fact that I am getting way more traffic than I should be. I think this is due to the comment spam bots, so hopefully that will go away.

I've upgraded to movabletype 3.1, the free one. If I like how it works and want to do more, I'll probably get the real thing. So far, so good.

On the academic front things are going very well. I will graduate 21 May 2005, cum laude, with a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Right now I am in the process of applying to The George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM), which is my first choice for graduate school. Second choice is the public policy program at the Hubert H. Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota. If I am accepted at GWU, I'd start as soon as the end of May, right after graduation.

Right now I'm trying to finish up my internship paper (long overdue), polish my resume, finish my statement of purpose, and work on my capstone thesis. This is in addition to the stats class that I don't need to take, and the book report and term paper that I have to do for my public opinion class.

I'm also trying to download the fantastic episode of Real Time with Bill Maher from this weekend. Usually I find Robin Williams to be a little too much, but he was really on. It is hard to show up Bill Maher, but Williams dominated the show. I would get HBO just to watch that show. Well, that and Ali G, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Deadwood, Oz, Six Feet Under, Entourage, and Mr. Show.
