Didn't know I had to

Didn't know I had to come to the UK to find out what boring really means

I've never been bored by a class in general before. There have always been boring lectures, or even whole months that are boring, but never a whole class... until now. Historical European Geography is SOOOOO boring. I'm not talking about how different countries formed, I'm talking about the different farming techniques of medieval farmers in Scotland vs. the ones in Brittany. I don't care about how farming worked back then! I could see if I was a farming buff, it might catch some of my interest, but he spent 50 minutes going on and on about different plows, different configurations of how to farm, etc. Never again will I assume that when somebody says that they find a class boring that they are just ignorant, I know that it is actually possible. Good thing that's only one of the professors and half of the class, otherwise I'm afraid I may fail. The other half I like and can live with, we talk about the history of Geopolitics, which is something that isn't boring at all to me.

UWEC posted class schedules for next fall today, I'm excited. Looks like none of the classes I want to take are on fridays, so I'm in luck. The question is, do I want to have class all day Tuesday and Thursday? The answer to that is no. More later

How many TV shows can I love before it become unhealthy?

Chalk Curb Your Enthusiasm up on the list of my favorite TV shows. I've actually managed to download every episode from Kazaa, and I'm trying to pace myself so that I don't blow the whole wad of shows in 15 hours straight. I've become more or less the provider of quality American television to the fine students of my host university.

I've decided that I'm gonna try to open a Swiss Bank Account when I travel in Europe. I always thought it would be cool to have one, and now I will. I wonder if I can open one with just $20, and will I get a checkbook? Will I have to use my real name, or will an assumed identity be allowed?

Another Exciting Valentine's Day, Come and Gone

Ah, my favorite day of the year, and it is over. Well, I'm not really a fan, but I did have fun down at the bar, even though my ears are ringing. Good time all around, although I didn't get any valentines... tsk tsk tsk. I played some cards, talked with Bonnie, and she made me listen to some woman named Cinder Block, and with a name like that, sounds she wears the pants in whatever relationship she's in. She seemed kinda angry when she sang, maybe because she was yelling. If it's music, why do you have to yell? Maybe if they turned down the loud and fast drums and loud and fast guitar, they wouldn't have to yell, but then again, I may be missing the point of punk music. I was told that the only band that I like that is close to punk, OK Go, isn't real punk because it is pop-punk, and by the nature of punk, it can't be poppy at all, God forbid. Bonnie's world of music is like another planet, she's into Tori Amos, who, even though she is pleasing to the eye, doesn't really do anything for me musically.

In other news, Kazaa still works, but it is so damn slow, it will take me forever to get all the files that I want. But even if it takes a whole day to get a file, it is for the good of the campus. God knows Friends sucks, and that's the biggest thing on the P2P network.

Well, I need to sleep so I can go into town tomorrow.

For once in my life,

For once in my life, I'm happy with even a slow internet connection

I say this because I finally got Kazaa to work behind this damn firewall. Getting it to work and getting it to work well are two different things, but even 2 Kbps is better than nothing. Granted, I've had it running for six hours now, and I have yet to get my first Scrubs episode, but since LUSerNet doesn't have it, I'm fine with the wait. Other good news, and because of it, this post will be short. There is the new episode of Alias on LUSerNet and I'm downloading it right now at blazing speeds, and I just checked, and it is done. I'll write more later, after I see what happens.

Guns in schools -

Guns in schools - YES! Immigrants with guns - NO!

It's good to see that Minnesota is finally coming into the 21st century. There is a new bill before the house that would allow anybody to get a permit to carry a concealed gun as long as they have $40, they don't have mental illnesses, isn't an illegal alien or hasn't been convicted of a violent crime. Oh, and they are finally gonna fix it so God-fearing Americans can bring guns into schools. Well it will still be a crime (it's as severe as jay-walking and public urination). From the Strib story: "In addition, it would make it a petty misdemeanor for a person with a permit to carry a pistol in a school building unless in the process of dropping off or picking up a child." We all know that we need to make it easier for people to bring guns to schools, perhaps teachers will be packing heat thanks to this new law (sounds like a Boston Public episode).

I went to my one class today, anthro, and I learned a lot sexual anthropology. I have never heard so many foul words in one lecture since I've been in Mr. Anderson's government class :). Well, the things he said weren't really that foul, the only reason why we are uncomfortable with words like cock or cunt is because most humans see sexuality as dirty or disgusting. My prof said that society is scared of sex because it is when humans are most like animals, essentially most people are embarrassed by the idea that they act like lesser creatures. I think it's an interesting taboo about society, but that's enough about that.

I bought a copy of my first commie rag, the Socialist Worker, which cost me 80p, but it was nice to read something different for a change. It was mostly anti-war in Iraq, and it brought up a lot of points that aren't in the mainstream media, and I'll try to remember to buy a copy next time I see somebody selling it.

I have pictures of my newly cleaned room, maybe I'll put them up on my photo site, or include them right here, don't know yet. I like it when my room is freshly cleaned, but I tend to not want to keep up with it, so one day after I cleaned, stuff is already piling up...

Looks like that since bin Laden mentioned Iraq in his latest tape that means that we should be justified in attacking Iraq. In reality, Saddam and Osama have very little in common, except they both hate Bush, even more than I do. The only difference between me and those two is that they hate America as well, whereas I'm only disappointed with it at this point. Oh, and they are both violent, evil men. Look at it this way, Saddam is denying any relationship to bin Laden, why in the world would he come forward implying that he is working with Iraq? I know that Saddam is a big liar, but I really doubt that any alliance where they couldn't agree to both lie about the same thing is that strong. If the US attacks Iraq, it will only unite more people to oppose the US, and that's what bin Laden wants. We are playing into bin Laden's hand by going to war with Iraq. I don't support Saddam at all, but I think the US is starting a war for no valid reason (not that there ever is a valid reason to start a war) and is lying to the public and the rest of the world about why they are doing it. Bush is a liar, Saddam is a liar, and Iraqi civilians have to die because of two stupid men.

It has been a long time...

Possible new format along with my blog, I think I'm gonna do away with the comments, because I have to face the fact that people are just speechless after reading my entries.

Quite a bit of news lately, I can finally use FTP, meaning I can upload images to my Earthlink host. I joined the Film Society on campus, and I've already ushered for three movies in the past week. First was XXX which was worse the second time that I saw it, the next day it was Beautiful Girls which I quite liked, even with its rather anti-man message :). Then just today I ushered for S1M0NE which I enjoyed just as much the second time as the first, and it has Catherine Keener, the greatest woman alive.

I've recently been spending most of my time on my computer browsing the wonderful world of LUSerNet instead of doing more productive things, including writing for this damn Blog. But now that I've seen all the Scrubs and Alias episodes on the network, I can finally get back to normal stuff, and check every hour to see if the new episodes have been posted.

Oh, and I have some more photos on-line on a digital photobook of sorts. Check them out here: http://community.webshots.com/user/micahmn.

That's about all for now, I need to get to sleep, I went to bed at midnight last nite, which was a nice change from the usual 4 AM, which I'm pushing right now.

Here is the link, right
